At a listening session to discuss the future of the site, local activists called on the secretary and President Obama to designate the Bureau of Land Management-managed lands at Fort Ord as a new national monument using the president's executive authority under the Antiquities Act.

Friends who visit always remark how truly enchanting this land is. I have traveled extensively but to this day, have not seen anything more magnificent than rain-swelled waterfalls pouring off of sandstone canyon walls or newly fallen snow in the Wasatch. Utah's diverse geography has it all, from mountains and canyons to deserts and rivers. I love this land.

They come here to experience the natural bliss that I speak of. The revenue generated by the tourism industry serves our area well and is easily in the millions of dollars each year. Sen. Feinstein's legislation would help to increase these opportunities thus making our regional economy more robust.
