Veterans Blast McSally for Endangering Bipartisan Lands Deal

(Phoenix, AZ) – As the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, and national parks across the nation struggle to recover from the devastating impacts of the longest government shutdown in American history, Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) voted yesterday for a deeply unpopular proposal to cut funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) — a bipartisan conservation program that has supplied $239.5 million in funding for Arizona’s public lands.

If advanced, the proposal — introduced as an amendment by Senator James Lankford (R-OK) — would have likely derailed the passage of the bipartisan Senate public lands package which includes permanent reauthorization for the LWCF. The amendment’s decisive defeat (66-33) shows that McSally is not only out of step with her own party, but with the majority of the American people as well.

In response to McSally’s disappointing vote, Vet Voice Foundation launched an aggressive digital ad campaign calling out the freshmen senator for voting against the interest of Arizona’s veterans and all Americans.

“While Martha McSally was not elected to serve the state of Arizona, she swore an oath to represent the interests of its people in the U.S. Senate” said VVF spokesman Garett Reppenhagen. “Yesterday’s vote to cut critical LWCF funding was nothing short of a dereliction of duty and a slap in the face to the brave men and women who have fought to protect the American homeland.”
