VVF Statement on Fair Returns for Public Lands Act of 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. Vet Voice Foundation strongly supports the Fair Returns for Public Lands Act of 2020 introduced by Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA). This bill would start putting taxpayers first by reforming federal onshore oil and gas fiscal rates to make oil and gas companies pay their fair share for the use of public lands. Vet Voice members across the West believe this bill will put an end to billions in taxpayer losses and return revenues to states to invest in their communities.

“Yesterday, Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced the Fair Returns for Public Lands Act of 2020, a bipartisan bill which will help fix the broken onshore oil and gas leasing system by putting an end to the sweetheart deals this industry has been getting for over a century to drill America’s public lands,” said VVF Western States Director & Iraq War Veteran, Kate Hoit. “Our public lands play a pivotal role in veteran’s lives as they transition back to civilian life—and this bipartisan bill will put an end to billions of dollars in taxpayer losses and return those revenues to the states to invest back into our communities and public spaces that so many veterans and their loved ones rely on.”
